Sale of Organic products promoted at 3rd All Garo Hills International Women’s Day Celebration

Thousands of women from across the districts of Garo Hills region came forward to attend the 3rd All Garo Hills International Women’s Day Celebration cum Exhibition and Sale of Organic products by SHGs of the region on 7th of March at P.A Sangma Stadium, Dakogre in Tura.

Mr. Marcuise Marak, Chief Whip, Government of Meghalaya, graced the function as the Chief Guest in the presence of Co-chairman, Meghalaya  State Planning Board, Benedict Marak and MLA Jowai constituency, Weiladmiki Shylla on the first day.

The Programme was organized for the third time by BAKDIL, Tura in collaboration with Meghalaya State Women’s Commission (MSWC), Chief Minister’s Special Rural Development Fund, Department of Social Welfare, NABARD, MSRLS, and Meghalaya Rural Bank.

Around 130 SHGs Members from each 30 Federations gathered to witness the events and took part in the exhibition and sales of products.

Fr. Sunny Joshep Mavelil, Director of Bakdil shared that the celebration provides the platform for connecting the rural with urban and give a chance to showcase the talent of women SHG groups including the sale of various products and thereby helping to improve the economy of the people of the region.

Various products comprised of local species, pickle products, agri-horti products including the famous rice from Mangsang, bamboo, wood carving and cane products, sanitary and washing products, animal and husbandry, earthen, agro-forest products, drink, and beverages were exhibited in the stalls.

One of the federations of the FARM NE-II, Simang Samanda Federation exhibited the organic vegetables for selling the local vegetables and agri-horti products. The Federation sold Rs. 8900/- of organic products and gained a profit of Rs.3950 within a short period of time.
