ECOSOC CONSULTATIVE STATUS GRANTED TO MALANKARA SOCIAL SERVICE SOCIETY

Consultative status was granted by United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) to Malankara Social Service Society on August 23, 2016 at Major Archbishop’s House at Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

This consultative status will enable the organization to actively engage with ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies, UN secretariat, programmes, projects and funds in a number of ways.

Malankara Social Service Society started the process of interaction and procedures of project application with UN since 2010. It is a great achievement that the organization gained this successful international development platform which will definitely make conducive atmosphere with the sustainable development goals (SDG 2030).

Started in 1961 by the late Archbishop Benedict Mar Gregarious for the social service and development works of the community in a meaningful manner, this organization has achieved tremendous linkages and collaboration with various governmental and development organizations for projects and programmes and served the society in a sustainable and equitable manner.

“Organization is still pursuing the good works started by its founder Archbishop Benedict Mar Gregorious and the consultative status is a new dimension for serving the needy and downtrodden in the society with new programmes and projects globally” said Mar Baselios Cardinal Cleemis – Catholicos,President of Malankara Social Society.

“The culture of service was contributed by the Christian community in the country since AD52. Malankara Catholic Church continues the same tradition of service and dedication to the society when it passes two thousand years” said Shri P Sreerama Krishnana, Hon’ble speaker of Kerala Legislative Assembly.

This status has to be considered as recognition of the great selfless services of the organization shared the minister while handing over the official document of special consultative status to Fr. Bovas Mathew, The Director – Malankara Social Service Society.

Dr. Samuel Mar Irenios, Auxiliary Bishop, John Mathai, former chief secretary of Kerala, Jacob Punnoose, Former DGP of Kerala and Rajan M Karakkattil, Chief programme Coordinator were some on the eminent guest present during the occasion.
