More than thousand farmers from Maharashtra showed interest in Sustainable agriculture

Traditions and culture are indispensable part of Indian society and people celebrate every rituals and festivals together to strengthen their heterogeneity with harmony. Majorly farming communities in India are involved in various traditional practices to celebrate their rituals.

Bahiram fair is such popular annual event in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra during the month of December and January where thousands of devotees visit Bahiram Baba Temple and offer their prayers. The fair becomes a hub for farmers from adjacent districts to visit and market agricultural equipment, daily need items, utensils etc.

Every year Caritas India Center for Environmental Studies in Social Sector (CESSS) put-up their exhibition stall for farmers in the fair to promote sustainable agriculture and natural resource management to strengthen their knowledge and skills.

Local PRI members are very supportive and encouraged CESSS team to organize the exhibition for the farmers. Member of Block Panchayat, Mrs. Manisha Solav showed special interest and inaugurated the exhibition in the presence of Chief Guest, Mr. Jitendra Rode, the press representatives, Mr. Jadhav, Block Agriculture Officer, Mr.Vijaybhau Tembhare, Promoter of organic farming, Mr. Rajesh Solav, Ex. Chairman of block Panchayat,  Fr. Ramsheen, Vicar General of Amravati diocese and Fr. Benjamin, Executive Director of Jeevan Vikas Sanstha, CESSS staff and Villagers.

Dignitaries of the event shared with farmers the importance of Sustainable Agriculture practices and Natural Resource Management to rejuvenate and revitalize farmers life and agriculture sector of Vidarbha to solve present agrarian crises.

The two-day exhibition from 27-28, January 2018, helped farmers to gain knowledge on Sustainable Agriculture Practices (SAP), Integrated Pest Management, Integrated Nutrient Management techniques, low cost Natural Resource Management (NRM), indigenous seed and conservation practices, Govt. schemes and entitlement, livelihood promotion etc.

The fair is an excellent platform for establishing linkages with farmers and institutions involved in farming. The demonstration of vermi compost pockets, Solar cooker, low cost vermi wash model was much appreciated by farmers. During the two days, more than thousand farmers registered themselves to avail technical guidance and support in adopting SAP.

Visiting farmers appreciated CESSS initiatives for reformation of the agriculture sector and various types of organic manures and pest repellents prepared using easily available materials from the agricultural land and surroundings.

Preparation of various organic manure and repellents like Vermi compost, NADEP compost, Bijamrit, Jeevamrit, Fish Tonic, NPK organic, Cytosine, Lamit, Dashparni were the highlight of the exhibition where the demonstration was conducted to increase soil fertility and control insect and pests in the field.
