Launch of Lenten Campaign in Kerala Embodies Theme of Fraternity in Humanity

In an outstanding display of compassion and shared responsibility, the Lenten season in Kerala commenced with the State Level Launch of the Lenten Campaign, held on February 25, 2024, at Our Lady Dolours Basilica in Thrissur, Kerala. The theme, “Fraternity in Humanity; Together with Everyone,” resonated deeply, setting the tone for a period of solemn reflection and spiritual renewal.

The launch program, a collaborative effort between the Social Service wing of Thrissur Archdiocese, Santhwanam, and the Kerala Social Service Forum, unfolded as a testament to unity and shared responsibility inherent in the Lenten Campaign’s theme.

The solemnity of the event was established with a Holy Mass led by Fr. Jacob Mavunkal, the Executive Director of the Kerala Social Service Forum. In a heartfelt sermon, Fr. Jacob delved into the essence of the Lenten Campaign by Caritas India, highlighting practical activities that individuals could undertake to support the campaign. His words transcended charity, emphasizing a collective call to embody fraternity in actions, fostering shared responsibility for the well-being of fellow beings.

Following the Holy Mass, the State Level Lenten Campaign was officially inaugurated by Archbishop Andrews Thazhath, CBCI President, and Archbishop of Thrissur. The unveiling of the Lenten Campaign poster marked the commencement of this meaningful journey. Archbishop Andrews delivered a profound message, urging all present to embody the spirit of togetherness and shared responsibility. He emphasized building bridges of understanding and extending hands in solidarity to uplift and embrace every member of the global family.

A heartwarming moment unfolded when the Children’s Ministry of Dolours Basilica made the first contribution to the Lenten Campaign, setting a positive tone for contributions to follow. Archbishop Andrews inaugurated the signature campaign, “Fraternity in Humanity; Together with Everyone,” encouraging active participation and symbolizing solidarity with the Lenten campaign’s vision.

A significant highlight was the release of hydrogen balloons into the sky, symbolizing peace-building inherent in the Lenten Campaign’s theme. The balloons, as messengers, carried the hidden message of unity, compassion, and collective responsibility across the skies.

The program, graced by the presence of Executive Directors from Santhwanam, Thrissur, the Rector, and Assistant Priests of Dolours Basilica, Trustees, and the active participation of the parish community, added depth and significance to the launch event.

The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Fr. Joy Mookken, Executive Director of Santhwanam, Thrissur, emphasizing the importance of collective action for the success of the Lenten Campaign.
