Join as Caritas India Volunteer – Be a Caritas Samaritan

Volunteering is the commitment of a person’s time and energy for the benefit of society and the community i.e. the environment of individuals outside one’s immediate family. It is undertaken freely and by choice without any expectation for financial gain.

“Caritas India understands volunteering as an expression of Diakonia. Volunteers in Caritas India see a deep connection between their faith and their service, and it is their faith that prompts them for Diakonial work. They donate their resources (skills, knowledge, expertise, time, and monetary contributions) with dedication and joy. This gives life to the work of Caritas India.”

Caritas India volunteers are people who have compassion, at the root of their action: they feel what the other persons feel and share the struggle for the quality of life using possibilities that exist. They are moved by faith and are social transformation agents who act with competence and spirituality. Volunteers at Caritas India believes in journeying along with the people, especially with the most impoverished; they are people and teams committed to engage in favour of people in situations of vulnerability and social exclusion and who work and encourage their group, using a liberating methodology.

Caritas India believes its volunteers are people who work in a joint effort; coexist in solidarity, seeking unity, respecting, and valuing differences; dialogue and goodwill. They are committed and engaged in changing the culture of dominion and the unjust structures of society.

According to the Strategy Plan 2018-23 of Caritas India, volunteering is one of the key strategic pillars of caritas India. Caritas India believes in the value of volunteering as a powerful expression of a people-centred approach to development and an essential component of a free and fair democratic society. Caritas India welcomes adults, youth, families, and groups to volunteer within the organisation’s programmes and does not discriminate against any volunteer because of her/his caste, race, ethnicity, colour, age, gender, sexual orientation, place of origin and disability.
