Caritas India Empowers Crisis-Hit Manipur Youth for Dignified Livelihoods

Caritas India, in collaboration with Don Bosco Institute (DBI) Guwahati, continues its unwavering commitment to supporting crisis-affected youth in Manipur on their journey towards a dignified and empowered life. The recent graduation ceremony held on March 6, 2024, marked the successful training of another batch of 100 young individuals, equipping them with essential skills in beautician services, hospitality, and teaching.

The 2nd Graduation Ceremony, organized by Don Bosco Institute Kharghuli Guwahati Assam, was a testament to the resilience and determination of the youth who, despite facing challenges, have embraced opportunities for skill development and growth. The event commenced with a melodious welcome song by DBI students and words of welcome by Fr. Cletus Sebastian, Executive Director of DBI.

Dr. Alice K. Vizo, Director PTC Guwahati, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. She extended heartfelt congratulations to all graduates, emphasizing the significance of their accomplishments in the face of adversity. Dr. Vizo officially opened the graduation ceremony, acknowledging the efforts of both the students and the institutions that supported them.

Fr. Cletus, in his welcome address, provided an overview of the achievements of the students, highlighting the positive impact they have made. He expressed gratitude to Caritas India for its constant financial support and recognized the organization’s pivotal role in facilitating the training program. The training encompassed a spectrum of skills, with 79 youths receiving hands-on training in hospitality, 4 in beauty and spa services, and 17 in primary teacher training.

The success of the program is evident as 79 graduates from the hospitality course have been interviewed by various agencies and are awaiting calls to join their respective workplaces, underscoring the practical relevance of the training provided.

Motivational speeches by speakers emphasized the importance of enhancing skills, dedicating time, and upholding the values of humanity. Students were encouraged to equip themselves with adequate skills and knowledge to confront challenges and excel in their careers.

The vibrant event was adorned with traditional dances representing the rich cultural diversity of Northeast India. Students shared their experiences, showcasing the impact of the program on their lives and aspirations.

The ceremony concluded with the distribution of certificates to the 100 graduates by the Chief Guest and special invitees. Fr. John, Associate Director of DBI, expressed gratitude for the support and closed the event with a vote of thanks.
