Caritas in Pursuit: A journey of Endurance to Excellence

Caritas India commemorated the 58th year of her Foundation on October 1, 2020. The theme “Caritas in Pursuit” … A journey from Endurance to Excellence is a very well thought of expression at the threshold of her 58th milestone.

2020 was indeed a tumults year to be recorded and written down in the History of Mother Earth. The blanket wrap of the COVID across the globe and with the backlash of floods fury and lashing Cyclone Amphan in India, this year amalgamated a crescendo of disasters beyond human capacity and reach.

However as ever prompted and guided by her Mission “The Joy of Service”, Caritas India continued her pursuit of endurance with excellence reaching and aiding to the millions stranded, displaced and ravaged by nature’s fury. These upheaval times turned into opportunities as Caritas India under the aegis of CBCI forged together with the church fraternity to battle the pandemic, innovating strategies and incubating new ventures and partnerships.

Looking back the journey traversed, Caritas celebrated her 58 glorious years of service hosting a virtual “Coming Together” together with the church and the fraternity of the civil society organizations. The meeting was graced with His Eminence Oswald Cardinal Gracias, His Beatitude George Cardinal Alencherry and His Excellency Joshua Mar Ignathios.

Caritas India was honoured with the presence of Her Excellency Christiane Hieronymous, Head of Economic Cooperation & Development, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany. She shared words of appreciation for the herculean work Caritas and the Church have been rendering in the country in response to COVID and other development initiatives. She also shared her deep concern over the growing and current issue of the FCRA and expressed her perspective towards exploring the possible avenue of partnership and working together in the coming days.

His Excellency Nuncio Giambattista also resonated good wishes to Caritas India and gave an emphatic note on the essence and purpose behind endurance. He reiterated that as Christians we have a prophetic call to serve and endure in order to accomplish the larger purpose of life.

Joining them were eminent speakers Mr. Aloysius John, Secretary-General, Caritas Internationalis and Ms. Kirsty Robertson, CEO of Caritas Australia. In their messages, they focussed on the importance of partnerships and collaborative efforts that emanate from these associations and how as a Caritas fraternity, these partnerships should be harnessed for realizing the mission of Caritas across the world.

Under the able leadership of our Chairman, His Grace Sebastian Kallupura and Executive Director, Fr. Paul Moonjely, Caritas India pledges to be courageous to innovate and evolve amidst these changing times.
